Instead of the common 401(k) individual retirement accounts offered by many companies, Arapahoe County automatically enrolls its full-time employees in a unique 401(a) Defined Benefit pension plan. And what a difference an (a) makes. The County’s plan is exceptional in that it provides a guaranteed source of income for your lifetime, regardless of how the market or economy performs.

As an employee, a pre-determined percentage of your paycheck is set aside throughout your time here and pooled together with contributions from the County and other employees. These funds are professionally and responsibly managed to ensure the County can cover monthly distributions for all retired employees, now and in the future.

After you meet the minimum required years of contribution, you become fully vested and will receive a guaranteed lifetime monthly income when you reach retirement—whether you stay and continue working for the County or not!

This plan helps ensure steady financial support in retirement, allowing you more freedom to pursue your hobbies, spend more time with family, travel, or finally take up pickleball.
